GameCenter DB is an unofficial database of the exploits, people, and games featured on the Japanese television program GameCenter CX and related spin-offs. This project is a labor of love for those that keep GCCX in their heart and hopes to inspire those unaware of Arino-Kacho to spend some time learning from his decades of hardship.
Purpose
Infrastructure and Development
GameCenter DB is a fully custom Ruby on Rails application hosted on Heroku with a PostgreSQL database. Image and static assets are hosted on Amazon S3. Additionally, a Debian-based test server was operated on a Linode virtual machine in order to better test the site in a production-like environment.
The majority of the the site was developed on a 2018 Apple MacBook Pro (running various versions of macOS Big Sur & Monterey) that occasionly decides (as a funny joke) to suddenly restart at random intervals. Remember: save always or face ruin. The local Rails development environment is RVM and HomeBrew powered. And when in the world of the terminal, byobu manages all my sessions.
The application was developed in Panic's Nova IDE and Egger Apps' Postico database editor. Any and all image editing was done in the excellent Pixelmator.
Correspondence
The Curator of GameCenter DB can be reached by email. Any additions, corrections, or suggestions for the betterment of the database are welcome.
Legal
Neither GameCenter DB nor its creator claim any kind of ownership over the creations of Fuji Television & the Gascoin Company featured on this site as well as any games, software, or hardware featured as a part of these creations.
In nations where the concept of fair use is defined in law, GameCenter DB applies this doctrine in its use of copyrighted materials which can include but are not limited to screenshots of television episodes, photos of television show cast members, or photos of physical media (cartridges, CDs, et cetera). When applying fair use provisions from around the world to the content of GameCenter DB, the creator of the site is under the belief that the site is in compliance. However, depending on the jurisdiction, this is a subjective measure. Examples of such legal provisions include:
- European Union: Directive 96/9/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 March 1996 on the legal protection of databases
- Republic of Korea: Korean Copyright Act (Art. 35, Paragraph 3)
- United States of America: 17 U.S.C § 107
GameCenter DB is operated at a financial loss and exists only to bolster the creative work of the above-mentioned companies and the people under their employ. No harm is intended, only love.
